The album represents the band’s foundational sound, something others find hard to sum up in a few words. Mat Leffler-Schulman, who mixed Pop Guilt at Baltimore-based Mobtown Studios, describes Lands & Peoples’ sound as Simon and Garfunkel combined with Ghanaian postal workers canceling stamps. “It’s not often I come across a band that’s virtually without genre,” he says. “It’s a wild record.”
